Successful injection molding projects start with the right tooling and support. Meridian Products Corporation provides tooling, design, and prototyping services that help customers move from initial concepts to production-ready molds. With decades of injection molding experience, our team supports mold development, design refinement, and manufacturing planning throughout the process.
Design Assistance and Review
Customers come to Meridian at different stages of the development process. Some have completed models, while others are still refining an initial concept. Our engineering team can help verify the design early, focusing on factors that influence mold construction, manufacturability, and part quality before tooling begins.
Our Design for Manufacturability (DFM) review covers:
- Draft features like angles and wall thickness for smooth mold release
- Gate locations and runner design for consistent fill
- Surface finish compatibility with chosen materials
- FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) to proactively identify and reduce production risk
Customers with a completed design can submit it as-is. Our team will either approve it or recommend targeted adjustments to improve part quality or accelerate production. Design evaluation generally takes four to five days, while full design assistance ranges from 10 to 25 days, depending on complexity.
Validating Designs with Prototyping
Validating your design with a physical prototype is an effective step to reduce risk before investing in production tooling. Meridian Products offers additive manufacturing (including 3D printing) and other rapid prototyping capabilities for testing form, fit, and function in the development process.
This approach helps identify functional issues before they require mold modifications. Our rapid turnaround on DFM reviews and prototype iterations means spending less time in limbo and more time moving projects forward.
The Tooling Process: From Quote to Approval
Once a design is approved, we move through a structured tooling workflow built for transparency and efficiency:
- Production quote. Full cost breakdown, including mold design, construction, materials, and services, delivered within a few days of design finalization.
- Mold design & build. We have an in-house tooling department and vetted offshore partners (with customer approval) to support this stage. Mold tooling is generally completed in 7 weeks or less based on product size and complexity.
- Review. First samples are produced and submitted for customer review and approval. Revision samples can be provided if any adjustments are required after the initial review.
- Production start. Full production begins once samples are approved, and offshore molds are shipped to Meridian’s Dallas, TX facility.
Customers review and approve all offshore tooling decisions before work proceeds, with full visibility throughout the process.
Production Capacity, Better Pricing, and Long-Term Partnership
One of the challenges manufacturers can face is finding a tooling partner who can actually scale with them. At Meridian Products Corporation, our tooling and production systems are designed for production-scale manufacturing.
The molds we build and the processes behind them support:
- Supporting production volumes without sacrificing part consistency or quality
- Better per-part pricing through efficient mold design and optimized production cycles
- A stable, long-term manufacturing partnership, not just a one-time vendor relationship
